The “Asahi Shimbun Digital For Academy” newspaper article service is higher-education oriented and, in partnership with The Asahi Shimbun Company, we will start to offer a trial version of it at Toyo University.
“Asahi Shimbun Digital For Academy” is a new service that Asahi Net, Inc. has developed in partnership with The Asahi Shimbun Company. A trial version of the service will be offered to the 30,000 faculty and enrolled students of Toyo University. Asahi Net, Inc. is listed on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, is located in Tokyo and is headed by Jiro Hijikata. The Asahi Shimbun Company has its headquarters in Tokyo, and its president is Tadakazu Kimura. Toyo University’s president is Makio Takemura.
“Asahi Shimbun Digital For Academy” is a higher-education oriented newspaper article service that aligns Asahi Net, Inc.’s educational support system “manaba” with The Asahi Shimbun Company’s article database “Kikuzo” and the fee-based electronic newspaper “Asahi Shimbun Digital”.
The impact of the OpenSSL Heartbleed vulnerability
A serious vulnerability (CVE-2014-0160, called “Heartbleed”) has been found in OpenSSL 1.0.1 and 1.0.2. that could lead to leakage of information. The effects of the vulnerability on manaba will be reported here.

Because manaba (both main and attendance servers) does not use an affected version of the OpenSSL library, it is not affected by the OpenSSL Heartbleed vulnerability.

There is no action required by our customers.
- No special announcement of the vulnerability is required to users (faculty and students) who have used manaba for two years or less.
- Neither the re-issue of a SSL certificate or invalidation of an old certificate is required. Therefore, there is no work required by Asahi Net, Inc.
